Protótipo (Prototype) takes its name from the etymological origin of the Greek word prōtótypon (πρωτότυπον), referring to an initial, still unfinished stage of development.

prôtos = first
týpos = mark, impression, model

For Protótipo I, SPACE ZERO brings together four product designers, each inviting a younger designer into a shared dialogue around the creative process.

Fernando Brízio invites Diogo Dias João
Filipe Alarcão invites Sara de Campos
Gonçalo Prudêncio invites Ivo Oliveira Rodrigues
Marco Sousa Santos invites Sebastião Santos

Protótipo I presents a selection of prototypes, studies, tests, fragments and works in progress – materials that usually remain in the archive or the studio, yet reveal the creative and critical potential of design thinking.

The exhibition shifts the focus from the finished object to the process itself; from resolution to experimentation; from stability to iteration. Each prototype embodies a moment of thought in progress, where trial, error and adjustment are not hidden steps, but integral parts of the language of design.
