Ucronia, presented at Moco Museum Barcelona, is a video installation based on previously unseen sketches by Eduardo Souto de Moura produced in the second half of the 1970s, and a prelude to the exhibition to be presented at Casa da Arquitectura in Matosinhos. Bringing together a series of videos developed by 18—25 Research Studio, the installation introduces some of the atmospheres and representational languages that structure the series of “imaginary monuments” — capriccios that evoke the idea of architecture’s disciplinary autonomy.
The work of 18—25 Research Studio (Filipe Alves and Luca Martinucci), developed in close collaboration with Eduardo Souto de Moura and in dialogue with the curatorial framework, transforms the original drawings into new forms of perception and interpretation, bringing together visual culture, technological experimentation, and the history of representation. Through moving image, fragments of an ongoing investigation are revealed, making visible the ways in which the archive can be activated as a living matter of creation.
